Americans Ruin Everything? A Guest Post

Below you’ll find a guest post from our friend, Ashley Hovde, who really wants to hear your opinions about the casting of the American version of The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo. So please, let a ridiculously good-looking sister know!

Thankfully Rooney Mara has the courage to bravely sport fake tattoos, a dyke-tastic hipster haircut, and an inauthentic attitude because there are no Lesbian actresses who could have played edgy, androgynous Lisbeth Salander in the English-language version of the film ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.’

Oh wait, I’m being sarcastic for the first time ever in my whole life! Honestly, I want to get pissed off about this, but I feel like I need to ruminate on the situation before I say anything too reactionary and poorly thought out.

I really am interested in hearing what other lesbians think about the decision to cast a straight actress for the role of Lisbeth Salander. So far I think it sucks, but I’m really trying to wrap my head around why the topic is bothering me so much.

Here are a few reasons, which I’d rather hear other people’s thoughts on before I assert my own:

1. She’s clearly NOT comfortable in the look they’ve painted her over with

2. Were there really no lesbians available or interested in the role?

3. Is this another case of ‘Iron Eyes Cody,’ the Italian man who is the most recognized/iconic ‘Native American’ in popular culture?

PS-The video is most easily found/famously known as “The Crying Indian.” Yes, yes it is. Gag.

My first date with Susan was at an NRA ‘Ladies Day On The Range’ event and that’s as close as I’ve ever gotten to the NRA but I’m still very proud of that.

Rachel Maddow sharing her first date NRA connection with Meghan McCain. Hilarious.

Amber Rose, who has identified as bisexual, smooching with music video model Rosa Acosta after a friendly “romantic dinner for two.” While the gossip sites may be blowing this up, as Acosta said on her website the two are just friends.

“Can’t two beautiful friends go out to dinner without having every camera in LA show up?”

Sure. Just stop making out in front of the cameras and no one - not even us - will say anything about it. Also, these two could never get gay married because “Rosa Rose” just sounds like a porn name.

Mia’s First Post As A Homo

This is my first post here on Girlfriend Is A Homo, so I thought I would take the time to thank some of the things and people who have taken part in making me the big ol’ lez that I am today.

The first movie I ever owned on VHS was a copy of Revenge of the Nerds that had been taped off of HBO given to (I would have to assume) my parents by one of their friends. I’m fairly certain I was the only one who ever watched it - and boy did I ever watch it.

I still can sing most of the lambda lambda lambda Greek week competition song and I’m pretty sure I could pick Betty Childs’ nipple out in a lineup.

The Solid Gold dancers were a vision of everything I wanted. A lady who could move their hips and look good in gold lame who got to entertain thousands of people watching them from home.

Brody freaking Dalle. She is so gorgeous I can’t stand it. Piercings, tats, rocking the fuck out and yet also feminine. Want.

Fruit roll-ups have always been a great snack to share with a friend or with that little girl you had a crush on back when you were in Kindergarten. Delicious, easy to trade for other snacks, but best to share.

And there you have it. Sure, there are plenty of other people I could thank for helping to make me gay (my parents let me wear this outfit)

So thanks to everyone for not only making me gay but letting me celebrate it with you.

Only a week + a day until Tea time, aka US Skins debuts, with Sofia Black D’Elia playing the much-anticipated lesbian called ‘Tea.’  It’s supposed to be good, so that means it’ll be MTV’s first good show since My So Called Life. We’ll see!

Drew and Rachel: totally believable So similar, right? We heart Rachel in glasses Drew obviously digs glasses, too Nice suspenders! Oh, look who else likes suspenders!

E! recently asked Drew Barrymore who her “celeb crush” was. Her answer: Rachel Maddow. So, of course they call it “lesbian crush” (as if she was never involved with Jane Pratt).

Anyway, we’re not surprised by her answer. Just look at the striking resemblance between RMadd and Drew’s on-again/off-again bf, Justin Long. Clearly, she has a thing for tall, dark and sometimes bespectacled!

Introducing our new girlfriend: Mia Jones

We’ve known Mia Jones for years - you know, running in the same big gay circles, writing for some of the same publications and websites. And, after guesting on her podcast Chick Habit a couple of times, it was only natural to suck Mia into our own web of trash talk, hot pics and all around good gay times by making her our new girlfriend / your new homo. Below, she answers some really contemplative questions to allow you to get to know her better. Enjoy!

What makes you such a homo?
I basically was a one-woman pride parade coming out of my mom’s vagina. When I was three years old I was convinced that I would someday marry Sherry Jealerson, my figure skating coach and sometimes babysitter. I was always friends with the boys but knew that pretty girls were the reason for the season. Also, I’m a gold star, that’s pretty homo, no?
Who is your favorite celesbian and why?
Hmm, picking a favorite celesbian is difficult because there are people like Jane Lynch and Ellen Degeneres who  seem fun and nice - but I like a girl with a bit more edge. I’m going with Carrie Brownstein. She’s a reluctant Jewish queer lady who is defined more by her creativity than she is by labels. Also, she’s hot.
When do you think Queen Latifah will come out?
My magic 8 ball told me she will come out in the next ten years - whenever she’s done with acting and is in need of a People magazine cover.
How can people stalk find you?
On Facebook, Twitter, iTunes (Chick Habit and Chubby Jones) and AfterEllen!
